Step Outside with us!
We’ve all been there — you pick up your phone for a ‘quick scroll’ while the kettle boils or while waiting at school pickup… and suddenly, an hour has vanished!
So, this month, we are turning our attention to the simple joys (and real benefits) of being outdoors — no Wi-Fi required.
Spring is in full swing, and there’s something about blue skies and sunshine that makes everything seem a little more possible. Motivation seems easier to find when nature is putting on such a glorious show.
At CHF, we’ve fully embraced the fact that we’ve hit the stage in life where birdwatching, the scent of fresh blossom, chatting about our gardens, and even having freshly mowed lawn brings genuine joy.
No matter your age, stepping outside can do wonders for your mood, energy, and overall wellbeing. So why not unplug for a bit and let nature do its thing and the fresh air work its magic?
Stress Relief
High levels of stress can take a serious toll on our health if left unchecked. The good news? Spending time outdoors has been shown to help. Research suggests that time in nature can reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, helping to lower blood pressure, ease anxiety, and boost overall mood.
Sharper Thinking
Nature doesn’t just help us relax — it can also help us think more clearly. Exposure to natural environments has been linked to improved cognitive function, including better focus, concentration, memory, and attention span.
Improved Physical Health
There’s something about time spent outdoors — especially by the sea — that leaves us feeling wonderfully tired, often followed by the’ best nap ever’. Many of us call it the magic of “sea air,” but there’s science behind it too. Time spent outdoors has been linked to a range of physical health benefits, including a stronger immune system, better heart health, and improved sleep quality. Fresh air really can do wonders for your body as well as your mind.
So we know the benefits of spending time outside are wide-ranging and well worth embracing — but what exactly should we do once we’re out there?
The best thing is, there’s something for everyone, no matter your interests or budget.
Go for a Walk or Hike
Whether you’re up for a long, scenic and strenuous hike or just fancy a gentle stroll around the block, walking is one of the easiest ways to get outside. Even a brisk walk on your lunch break can help to ‘blow the cobwebs away’ and lift your mood.
Dine Alfresco
Not every outdoor activity needs to get your heart rate up! Enjoying a meal outside — whether it’s a BBQ, a picnic, or brunch at your local café — is a relaxing and rewarding way to soak up some fresh air and sunshine. Even better if it includes coffee, cake and watching the world go by.
Bring Your Hobbies Outside
Love reading, crochet, drawing, or journaling? Try taking your favourite indoor pastimes outdoors. A quiet corner in the garden or a sunny park bench can give your favourite pastimes a new twist.
Try a Bit of Gardening
You don’t need a green thumb to enjoy gardening. Simple tasks like weeding, pruning, mowing the lawn, or even just pottering about can be satisfying and surprisingly therapeutic. Plus, you’re ticking off jobs on your ‘to-do list’. Win-win!
If you are feeling inspired and planning to spend more time in the garden this season, why not take a look at our Outdoors collection at Coach House Forge?
